FCCB Scrappin' Saturday: Job Layout Challenge!

I'm excited that we are having our first Scrappin' Saturday Layout Challenge today at Fantabulous Cricut (FCCB)!  I made the layout above for this challenge.

We are offering a prize...a Cricut Alphalicious cartridge goes to the winner!!!  The requirements are to make a layout about your job, featuring YOU, and to use at least one Cricut cut somewhere on your project.  Fun, right?  Participants have one week to complete their layout and submit to FCCB.

For my layout, I used the FABULOUS American Crafts Dear Lizzy collection papers.  These are leftovers from the class I took from Elizabeth Kartchner herself!  I love these papers...they just make me happy!

I used my Cricut George cartridge to cut the hearts and circles (to make the spiral flowers).  I lifted the edges of the hearts for dimension.

The spiral flowers, which I learned from Elizabeth Kartchner, are really simple.  You just spiral cut a circle (any size), leaving a small round portion uncut in the center of the flower.  Starting with the outermost end, begin rolling inward until you've reached the center.  Then just put a brad through the center of the flower (grabbing the innermost piece of the rolled flower) to secure it.  Using your hand, you can gently but firmly press down on the entire to flatten it out somewhat.

I also used the Street Sign cartridge for my title ("proof") and for the small arrows on the photos.  This layout is based on a sketch by PageMaps:

FANTABULOUS CRICUT! Challenge #1: Birthday/Balloon

This announcement is a little overdue, but I would like to let everyone know that I have been selected as a Senior Design Team member over at Fantabulous Cricut, (FCCB) the brand new Cricut challenge blog!!!

I, along with three other Design Team members, resigned from Just Buggin a couple of months ago, and I am so excited to be taking part in this awesome, FANTABULOUS new challenge blog!  Fantabulous Cricut will have some super-fun, informative and interesting tutorials, tips and challenges each week, so make sure you check back daily for a little crafy inspiration.  And be sure to head over today to take a look at the other DT members' creations and take part in the very first challenge!!!  :)

Challenge #1 at FCCB has two criteria (in addition to using at least 1 Cricut cut on your project):

1) use a balloon shape

2) use the word "birthday"

(neither of these have to be the Cricut cut)

My project (photo above) is a birthday card for a little boy turning 2.  For the balloon shape, I used three small balloons tied together and embellished with a glittery button and turquoise ribbon.  I printed the sentiment with my computer (including the word "birthday") and cut each word out separately.  I used the number "2" in place of the word "to". 

I used the following cartridges on this project:

Card base: George (circles welded together in Cricut Design Studio)

Scallop circle: Storybook

Number "2": Plantin Schoolbook

Black arrow: Street Sign

To get the glittery look on the number "2", I coated the surface of the number with liquid glue and sprinkled it with turquoise glitter.  I used a scrap piece of paper to press the glitter down, then shook off the excess glitter and let it dry.  Then I matted it with a black shadow for dimension.

Just Buggin Challenge #22: "Berry Sweet" Card

This week's challenge (#22) over at Just Buggin is called "All About Food": make a food-themed project.  Here is my Design Team card:

I used 3 Bugs In A Rug patterned paper (green polka dot) for the mat on this one and added random dots of green glitter glue for sparkle.  Using Winter Wonderland, I cut the scallop circle out of hot pink and the shadow out of white cardstock.  I added pink glitter glue for sparkle.  I ran a striped ribbon (American Crafts) around the card base, attached the scallop circle and then adhered the mat to the green card base.

I wanted a strawberry die cut and didn't have one on the cartridges I own, so I made my own!  I used Street Sign to cut the "body" of the strawberry from red cs using the "interstate sign" cut.  Then I used Doodlecharms to cut the "palm tree top" from green cs and placed it on top...looks like a strawberry to me!  :)  I added glitter glue to make the "seeds" and for the lines on the leafy top.

To finish, I printed the sentiment onto white cs, matted it with red cs and adhered with foam dots.

Craft: School Bus Card (BITTEN by the BUG Contest: School Theme)

This week's contest on BITTEN by the BUG is to create a project with a school theme. The first day of school is such an exciting time for little ones! I decided a make a school bus card for my daughter (The Mess Maker) who is starting preschool this year...my baby is growing up!!! I thought it'd be a nice little send-off for her first day.

I used the Doodlecharms cartridge to cut the card base and bus layers. I also cut the apple and children's faces with it. The "school" letters were cut with Street Sign. I added a bow with a stick figure brad (I don't know...just seemed school-ish to me!) to attach it. TFL! :)
